Author Guidelines
The fundamental aim of the Latin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis (LAJSBA) is to publish original research papers, reviews and technical notes dealing with all aspects of the sedimentology, sedimentary rocks, sediment dynamics and related disciplines such as basin analysis, stratigraphy, paleoecology, paleogeography, etc. that provide a timely contribution to the advance in this field of the Earth Sciences.
Official languages of the LAJSBA are Spanish, Portuguese and English. However, considering the future expansion of the LAJSBA we will consider favorably those papers submitted in English. Papers in Spanish and Portuguese will have a RESUMEN/RESUMO in its original language and, with the object to guarantee their maximum diffusion, they will also include an EXTENDED ABSTRACT in English. Papers in English will have an ABSTRACT (in English). Keywords will be bilingual as well as figure and table captions in papers submitted in Spanish or Portuguese. Papers in English will not need bilingual keywords or captions.
This journal does not have article processing or article submission charges.
Code of Ethics
The Latin American Journal of Sedimentology and Basin Analysis adopts for its content the use of widely recognized and internationally accepted good practices, among them the following stand out:
* The work must be original and has not been sent to another journal simultaneously.
* The content is the intellectual property of the author/s (plagiarism) and the results have not been manipulated.
* Any conflict of interest must be declared.
* Previous works should be properly credited when necessary and excessive self-citation should be avoided.
MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
The only way to submit articles to LAJSBA is through the Open Journal System (OJS) Editorial System. Authors who already have an OJS account may log in through the “Login” tab (https://lajsba.sedimentologia.org.ar/lajsba/login). If you do not remember your password, please use the “Password Recovery” function. If you do not have a registered account, you must register through the “Register” link. A single person may not obtain more than one account. Please save the username and password selected during registration.
AUTHOR GUIDELINES
Submissions must be made as a single PDF (Portable Document Format) file containing the MANUSCRIPT (MS) with all required information. This document will be used during the review process. At the initial submission stage, it is not necessary to attach figures or tables separately. These will be requested once your manuscript has been accepted for publication, at which time you will receive instructions on how to submit the corresponding files separately. Upon completion of the submission process, you will receive a confirmation email at the registered address.
To facilitate manuscript preparation and review, authors are requested to follow the EDITORIAL GUIDELINES and download and use the templates provided below:

FIRST PAGE
The first page must contain the TITLE of the manuscript in 14-point font, bold, and centered, the authors’ names (11-point font, centered) together with their respective ORCID identifiers, their complete institutional affiliations (10-point font, left aligned), and a contact email address (10-point font, left aligned).
The manuscript TITLE must be informative, concise, and free of abbreviations. Authors’ names must be provided in full together with their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCID is a permanent 16-digit identifier that enables researchers and contributors to distinguish their scholarly output from that of other authors with similar names. If authors do not currently have an ORCID, they may register for free at https://orcid.org/register.
Complete institutional affiliations must then be provided (not acronyms only). For example, instead of “CONICET,” authors should write “National Scientific and Technical Research Council”, with the acronym optionally included in parentheses. The country of origin for each affiliation must also be indicated.
Finally, the email address of the corresponding author must be specified. This individual will receive page proofs and any additional communications.
SECOND PAGE AND SUBSEQUENT PAGES
ABSTRACT
The ABSTRACT must be written in English (either American or British English, used consistently throughout the manuscript). It may not exceed 300 words for research and review articles or 200 words for short communications. The abstract must clearly and concisely communicate the research hypothesis/hypotheses and objectives, briefly describe the methodology used, report the results obtained, and convey the conclusions and significance of the work.
RESUMEN (SPANISH ABSTRACT)
The RESUMEN (Spanish abstract) must be presented immediately after and under a separate heading from the ABSTRACT. It must consist of a faithful translation of the English abstract.
KEYWORDS
KEYWORDS must be included under a Tertiary Heading immediately after the ABSTRACT and the RESUMEN (translated to Spanish). Authors must provide 3 to 5 keywords, separated by commas and ordered according to importance. Avoid using words already included in the title. Authors are encouraged to include specifics related to subdisciplines, methodologies, and/or study materials, with geographic locations listed at the end. Keywords will also be required as metadata during submission through the OJS Editorial System.
MAIN TEXT
The MAIN TEXT of the manuscript must not exceed 8,000 words (references excluded) and must be divided into Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Headings. Primary Headings must be written in uppercase letters, bolded and centred on the page. Secondary Headings must use title case (uppercase and lowercase letters), bolded and aligned with the left margin. Tertiary Headings must use title case (uppercase and lowercase letters), bolded and incorporated directly into the paragraph. Headings must not be preceded by numbers or letters. Footnotes are not accepted.
All nonstandard terms, such as acronyms, must be defined the first time they are mentioned in the MAIN TEXT. All reported measurements must use International System of Units (SI) abbreviations consistently throughout the manuscript (e.g., meter = m; centimeter = cm).
FIGURES, TABLES, and their corresponding CAPTIONS must be placed according to the order in which they appear in the MAIN TEXT. Their placement is at the authors’ discretion and will be taken into consideration for the final layout and print version.
FIGURES
FIGURES must be designed according to LAJSBA page and/or column dimensions (Download Figure Template here). The maximum figure size is 172 × 240 mm for full-page width, and 82 × 240 mm for column width. Text inside FIGURES (letters and numbers) must not be smaller than 7-point font. Individual panels in a composite figure must be aligned and separated by a 1 mm white space and identified by lowercase letters (e.g., a, b, c, etc.) in 12-point font, displayed on either a white or black background and positioned in the upper-left corner.
Simple or composite figures must be numbered consecutively in the MAIN TEXT using Arabic numerals. All illustrations, including photographs, will be referred to as FIGURES, and in the text they should be cited as “…as shown in Figure 1…” or “…coarsening-upward cycles (Fig. 1).” When citing multipart figures: “…Figure 1a…” or “(Fig. 1a)”. When citing multiple figures or multiple panels from the same figure, use “(Figs. 1–3, 5)” or “(Fig. 1a–c, f), respectively.
Illustrations and photographs must be of the highest possible print quality, with a minimum resolution of 300 ppi (dpi) at final reproduction size.
TABLES
TABLES must be designed according to LAJSBA page and/or column dimensions. Authors are encouraged to keep tables to a minimum and include only information that is directly relevant to the work. The maximum table size is 172 × 240 mm for full-page width and 82 × 240 mm for column width. Text inside TABLES (letters and numbers) must not be smaller than 7-point font.
Simple data listings, unless extensively justified, will not be accepted. In exceptional cases, extensive tables may be included as SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL. If this option is chosen, the material must be included at the end of the manuscript, after the reference list.
TABLES must be cited chronologically in the TEXT according to their order of appearance, as “…in Table 1” or “…(Table 1)”.
CAPTIONS
TABLE and FIGURE CAPTIONS must include a concise description and be written in 10-point font, double-spaced, and justified. For composite figures, each panel must be referenced with lowercase letters followed by a parenthesis (e.g., a), b), c)), as “Figure 1. General description of Figure 1. a) Description of Figure 1a. b) …”
If necessary, the scale must be specified relative to the dimensions of an element shown in the figure.
I’ll continue next with Acknowledgments, AI Use Statement, References, citation style examples, Equations, and Plagiarism Detection.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS must be included immediately after the main text and preceded by a Tertiary Heading. Authors are encouraged to acknowledge reviewers, whose voluntary efforts are essential to maintaining the quality of publications. This section must also include a declaration of the funding source, if applicable, that supported the research.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) USE STATEMENT
The AI USE STATEMENT must be placed immediately after the ACKNOWLEDGMENTS section and preceded by a Tertiary Heading. In this section, authors must disclose the use of artificial intelligence (AI) if it has been used. LAJSBA recognises the use of AI as an aid for writing assistance and for the processing of code, images, and data. Authors are responsible for the results obtained and must carefully supervise and edit them to ensure appropriateness and accuracy. AI tools may not be listed as authors or coauthors of the work, since the interpretations and conclusions of the research must ultimately be the product of the authors.
REFERENCES
This section consists of a list of all cited works and must be headed by the Primary Heading: REFERENCES. LAJSBA adopts the APA (American Psychological Association) reference format, which provides detailed information on author(s), date, title, and publication details. The APA format may be consulted at: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples
In the TEXT, bibliographic citations must include “et al.” when there are more than two authors and should be written in chronological order as follows:
“…(Mazzoni et al., 1991; Orfeo, 1992a,b; Barrio and Coffield, 1992)…”
“…according to Flint and Elliot (1992)…”
“…as mentioned by Bercowski et al. (1991)…”
All cited works must be included in the REFERENCES section with the complete list of authors, arranged alphabetically, without blank lines between citations, preserving names in their original language, without abbreviations and replacing repeated surnames with dashes, and maintaining consistent typography throughout the citation (no bold or italics). The use of “op. cit.” is not permitted under any circumstances. For references with the same first author, works with two authors should be ordered by the surname of the second author, whereas references with more than two authors should be ordered chronologically.
Each reference must include author's surname(s) and initials, year of publication in parentheses, publication title, name of the journal (publication source), volume, and article number for scientific publications, whenever available. At the end of each reference, the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) must be included whenever available. This identifier is unique and persistent for each publication’s digital content and ensures that the work can be reliably located and cited. If a DOI is not available, a link to the publication may be included.

EQUATIONS
Equations should preferably be written using the equation editor available in the selected word-processing software. All equations must be numbered consecutively, enclosed in parentheses, and right-aligned. Equations must be cited in the TEXT as “eq. (1)”.
PLAGIARISM DETECTION
LAJSBA maintains strict plagiarism detection policies, carried out through a bibliographic analysis of the submitted manuscript at two stages. First, by the editorial team, and subsequently, through review forms completed by peer reviewers, who are selected exclusively based on their expertise in the subject matter.
COMMENTS TO THE EDITOR
During the submission process, the OJS Editorial System will ask you to provide COMMENTS TO THE EDITOR in the corresponding field. There, you must provide a brief explanation of the manuscript’s contribution, highlighting the general topic addressed and how it aligns with LAJSBA’s scope and interests.
To facilitate the selection of appropriate reviewers, authors must provide the names and email addresses of 3 to 5 potential reviewers, which does not imply any commitment on the part of the editorial team to select them. Additionally, if desired, authors may indicate reviewer exclusions, with appropriate justification.
